Lake Kivu is located on the border of the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The lake contains approximately 300 billion meters cubed of carbon dioxide (CO2) and 55-60 billion meters cubed of naturally occurring, economically viable methane gas (CH4) accumulated within the lake at depths of 300-450 meters, with hundreds of millions of cubic meters of CH4 added every year.
In 2019, SeaTech was appointed to be the contractor for all the offshore works in the project. Since it is classified as an Oil & Gas project, SeaTech acquired Oil & Gas accreditation from ADCI.
The Oil & Gas sector calls for strict compliance in all areas.
This type of facility has never been built before, and there was no ready-made solution for any element of the program.
Basic equipment and facilities were not available.
